![]() ![]() Easiest one to get is Tall Grass Pike that can be bought in Dyford village shop and have "prone on crit" effect. And since carnage carries main weapon effects barbarians are fantastic with "on crit" effects. Being ability it also get +1 additional accuracy each level so at lvl 10 i is as accurate as main attack and later becomes even more accurate(and with accurate carnage accuracy becomes very high) so after a certain point it starts to crit very often. There is a great greatsword for this role available once you reach Act 2 and save up some money, or a pike if you prefer reach to dual damage types.īarbarians defined by their carnage ability. Carnage gets you actual weapon attacks in an AOE, so they can proc your CC, and in spite of what the description of Carnage might lead you to believe these will actually be more accurate than your main attack at high levels, due to Carnage getting +1 accuracy per level like active abilities. However, Barbarians excel at a controlling role with weapons that offer CC on crit. Thinking in terms of tank/off-tank is a trap in POE1 aggro management basically doesn't exist and most enemies prioritize targets that they can hurt over the tank in plate with sky-high defenses. Your survivability comes largely from having huge health and endurance pools these make Con relatively good since it's a % bonus to the base amounts, though it's still probably not worth putting a lot of points into it. If you want to use a two-hander, you also don't get a shield bonus, so your deflection is going to suck no matter what you do with Resolve. In general with Barbarians, you don't need to boost Dex due to having strong class speed bonuses, and Resolve is wasted because you have awful base Deflection and lose more to Frenzy. Lastly, Soulbound weapons (added in the DLCs) in Pillars 1 benefit from any Weapon Focus talent, so even if you focused your character on say, Greatswords, you will get that extra +6 accuracy on a Soulbound Estoc, if you happen to find one. If you combine either with Frenzy + Bloodlust + Attack speed Gauntlets, you can hit 0 recovery on your attacks. Also, the only 2H 'attack speed' enchantments are available as an Estoc and a Quarterstaff. While Quarterstaffs normally only deal Crush damage (some enemies have Crush immunity), one of your companions start with a Fire/Crush staff. You can fit in more enemies in your Carnage area because of this. Quarterstaffs are cool too, with their extra range. Also, a really powerful Greatsword is available rather early in game Dropped by Lord Raederic. They deal best of Slash or Pierce damage, so is never stopped by a single immunity. If you only want to ever use 1 weapon type: Greatswords. Though, if you want to pass more dialogue checks, do it however you'd like. Resolve is also considered to be the least useful attribute outside dialogues, so I'd recommend having more points in Constitution than in Resolve.
